but "something" like id-00:0c:29:97:bd:f3 must be used to have ifup find the proper config file
Are you sure? man ifup: .. <hardware-description> may just be the interface name. .. The hardware-description may be the current interface name, the MAC address or the bus location where the device resides. Do you have any problem with that? (for 10.3 this behavior will be changed anyway) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I assume, that this is the reason, why a config file (which is named like mentioned) cannot be found. I just wanted to report this issue as other people might have the same problem after running vmware-config-tools.pl. And most likely this issue could be addressed until 10.3 is finally released. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Please look at bug #254695. One bug is in vmxnet driver that doesn't provide BusID and one is why bus-id was written instead of eth-id(MAC address) - this will happen only if MAC address is not available during installation. Could you attach yast-logs again in tarball format (I can't unpack it) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=262312 ------- Comment #6 from mzugec@novell.com 2007-04-20 03:39 MST ------- Yes, reproduced - during installation pcnet32 driver doesn't provide MAC address for virtual net card - YaST can't write configuration with name depended on that -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

During installation there is virtual network interface which works with pcnet32 driver. hwinfo provides BusID, but not MAC address. When you install vmware-config-tools, kernel detection is changed and vmxnet driver is used and hwinfo doesn't provide no BusID and MAC address -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
