[Bug 230729] New: upgrade: the CD/DVD drives are not working
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=230729 Summary: upgrade: the CD/DVD drives are not working Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: qa@suse.de 10.0 -> 10.2. Installer changed my fstab removing the entries for the DVD drives. So right from the start the only thing which can access the drives is yast2, but I am unable to get to them. And right now all I can do is mount -t 9660 /dev/sr0 /media/dvd And for one -- internal -- drive it is working, but I have no idea how to mount the external -- USB -- drive. I knew it in 10.0. No matter how big change in automounting system is -- the change should be transparent for the user. If I just inserted disc in 10.0 and it worked it should _just_ work in 10.2. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

This is the fallback for people who like to mount manually or want to use autofs. So I don't see a bug here. you shouldn't fix fstab,
Then what SHOULD I do? Sit for a month without drives?
removable media's are now mounted via hal.
Which does not work for me in 10.2 after upgrade.
and yes, if you add them to /etc/fstab, they will be no longer automounted, and hence you don't get the popup anymore.
For the second time -- I don't care about the popup. I can revert the changes in fstab but it should be a purpose -- since automounting does not work, I HAVE to fix the fstab.
So I don't see a bug here. Please reopen if you have either a problem by mounting via hal.
From the beginning I am telling I have the problem -- I know my English is a bit rusty, but gosh... is that as bad with me?
Once again: I have no access to the drives after upgrade -- none, zero, null. Fixing fstab was necessary since I have no other idea about ANY way to get to the disc content. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

As having CD/DVD in /etc/fstab is no longer our standard behaviour
Again, it was all I could do.
But I'd like to ask you to verify it's fixed for you too if you update to KDE:KDE3's kdebase3
Ok, it is not a problem, but what I have to do then to check if automounting works? Just remove DVD drives from /etc/fstab? Or something else. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=230729 ------- Comment #37 from coolo@novell.com 2007-05-08 08:53 MST ------- if you remove it from /etc/fstab it should work in any case (using only the normal updates). If you don't, it should work with KDE:KDE3. I'm afraid the bug went too many miles, so I can't tell what might be the problem. So if you update to KDE:KDE3 and clean up your fstab again and it still does not work (no window opens asking you what to do with your CD under KDE), then reopen and attach lshal output. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
