http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=911587 Bug ID: 911587 Summary: Message at shutdown: "kernel: watchdog watchdog0: watchdog did not stop!" Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Each shutdown seems to hang for a while, then the message "kernel: watchdog watchdog0: watchdog did not stop!" appears. I guess this is not expected. (Next log message is "dmeventd[945]: dmeventd shutting down."; maybe this helps) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=911587 --- Comment #2 from Ulrich Windl <Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de> --- It seems this bug is related to bug 911588: After updating the microcode, I did not see the error again, but maybe I need more reboots to make sure. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Since then I had four shutdown with out that problem. And the only package I installed since then was "ucode-intel-20140913-1.1.x86_64". -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=911587 Bug 911587 depends on bug 911588, which changed state. Bug 911588 Summary: microcode updater and microcode updates are not installed for Intel Core i7 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=911588 What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |FIXED -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=911587 --- Comment #6 from Ulrich Windl <Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de> --- Actually I saw the message again recently. This was after I installed some additional packages to play with DVB-T (See bug 913560). The typical effect is that shutdown takes longer than usual, and the process seems to pause at some point. Then you see that message (watchdog0: watchdog did not stop). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

See https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=732875 for a screen shot (the kernel paniced, so it was easier to capture the output). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=911587 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=911587#c11 --- Comment #11 from Ulrich Windl <Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de> --- On comment 10: The watchdog problem is independent from the panic. That's for sure. As I said in comment9, it's just easier to take a screenshot when the kernel paniced. What information do you hope to get from dmesg (that isn't there in the older dmesg)? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I always need the dmesg from the kernel that breaks. Messages in the log can change between versions and I need a reliable source for things to grep the source-code for. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
