[Bug 598842] New: Xorg ABI version mismatch prevents installation
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598842 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598842#c0 Summary: Xorg ABI version mismatch prevents installation Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sebas@kde.org QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) konqueror/4.4.2 Safari/532.4 During installation, I'm getting the following error: [EE] module ABI major version (6) doesn't match the server's version (7) This one is followed up by a couple of subsequent errors while loading other modules, for input devices for example. (Those work just fine in the first part of the installer) The versions I've tried this with is the M5 milestone and the snapshot of 21.4.2010, both exhibit the same problem. My graphics card is a ATI RadeonHD 4350, which is supposedly supported. (It works in 11.2 albeit w/o compositing), 11.3's Xorg should even do compositing with it. The first part of the installer seems to work fine (accepting the license and all), after that, some hardware is probed and the screen goes black (looks like it's starting X?), this step craps out. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot from netiso M5 or 21.4.'s snapshot 2. Accept license 3. Try most-straight-forward installation Actual Results: Installation stops with above error message on the console, haven't found a way around this problem Expected Results: Installation would continue -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is pre-installation, during probing the system. The error message I've posted is what would otherwise end up in Xorg.0.log. Following your comment, it looks like the installation image contains wrong packages. If you still want me to attach Xorg's log file, a pointer how I can get it off of the installation system would be nice. I have a similar graphics card for testing available. So which ISO did you download. http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598842 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598842#c4 --- Comment #4 from Sebastian Kügler <sebas@kde.org> 2010-04-22 14:19:34 UTC --- Sure. I've tried the following isos: openSUSE-NET-Build0556-x86_64.iso openSUSE-NET-x86_64-Build0561-Media.iso Burnt them to a DVD, booted from the DVD and started the installation. The shiny themed installer would ask me to accept the license and then probe different aspects of my system. The last but one step made it flicker to black (with the themed X cursor still visible), then the screen shows a red ncurses-style error dialog telling me that the installation failed. Using ctrl+alt+f<something> I can get to an error console, which shows the above ABI mismatch error. The machine is an Intel quad core X86_64 one. It runs 11.2 fine (albeit using the Free drivers without compositing, which is not supported on that revision of the driver). The graphics card is an ATI RadeonHD 4350 which is supposed to work fine with newer Xorg versions (in fact, another user with a 4850 has confirmed the Live DVD working). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598842 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598842#c5 --- Comment #5 from Stefan Dirsch <sndirsch@novell.com> 2010-04-22 16:38:59 UTC --- I couldn't find an image called openSUSE-NET-x86_64-Build0561-Media.iso, so I burnt the image openSUSE-NET-Build0556-x86_64.iso. Then I booted from that CD and tried to install via network (http) with the default repo download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.3/repo/oss. Unfortunately this failed due to there is only http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.3-Milestone5/ and beyond there is no repo/oss (only iso/delta). Conclusion: Installation of Milestone3 via network is currently not possible at all? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sorry, can't believe that, but feel free to reopen if this issue still occurs with M6. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
