[Bug 613815] New: openSUSE Buildservice needs an plattform for translators
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=613815 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=613815#c0 Summary: openSUSE Buildservice needs an plattform for translators Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: BuildService AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: opensuse@dstoecker.de QAContact: adrian@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100317 SUSE/3.5.9-0.1.1 Firefox/3.5.9 Currently I only know one plattform which allows proper translation support and this is translations.launchpad.net of ubuntu packaging system. This systems has lots of drawbacks and another possibility is really required. As according to OBS milestones it is anyway planned to moved the remaining Novell internal tasks (including translations) to OBS, I would suggest to design a full featured translations system for general use: - allow to import/export the translated texts - easy integration of translated texts into source repositories as well as package building - proper interfacing system to extract translations - e.g. usually it is required to have project specific data files translated. This requires wrappers. Very often these are completely or partial reusable in other projects. - proper search and notification systems - string manegement as well as complete translation history - Proper fuzzy string handling (especially for slightly changed original strings). - Important for the packaging system: Joining and integrating of local changes (e.g. .desktop files or the .spec) and remote changes from upstream Reproducible: Always -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

However, suggesting to design is fine, but doing it would be better ;) Assigning to Klaas, maybe as booster project. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The scope of OBS is building packages/images and publishing repos. This is not going to change for quite a long time. Even more so, you may argue that source code hosting facilities (and collaboration) would be more important to implement first. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
