[Bug 343181] New: Mouse pointer stuck in the top left corner when running fully virtualized VM in Xen .
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=343181 Summary: Mouse pointer stuck in the top left corner when running fully virtualized VM in Xen. Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Xen AssignedTo: cgriffin@novell.com ReportedBy: nice@titanic.nyme.hu QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Other Every time I run a qemu-dm assisted fully virtualized VM in Xen, the mouse pointed gets stuck int the top left corner. It's no matter if the access is via VNC or SDL. I don't even have to be connected to the running VM, moreover I don't even have to log in to KDE. It's enough to have the X server with, say kdm running. If the VM merely runs, the mouse pointer of X will get stuck into the top left corner in some time. It happens the following way: Fist time only the USB mouse's pointer gets stuck (!). It means that every time I touch the USB mouse, the mouse pointer gets immediately into the corner and stays there absolutely fixed while I move the USB mouse. During that time I still can work by the touchpad, until it also gets stuck! After that no more mouse movement is possible and I have to restart X somehow (e.g. by Ctrl+Alt!Backspace). I tried to pass the SDL_VIDEO_X11_DGAMOUSE=0 environment variable to qemu-dm (See: http://www.morphix.org/wiki/index.php/Qemu) by adding a line to /etc/init.d/xend. It succeeded, and I connected to the VM by SDL, but sadly the mouse behaviour remained the same. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Do: xm new <vm-config-file> // gets new values in xen-store xm create <vm-config-file> I have tried it, but mouse still hang up.

Having more than on vcpu in a 32bin dom0 with a -xen style kernel causes this problem. Having more than on vcpu in a 32bin dom0 with a -xenpae style kernel causes this problem and much worse things the kernel will be highly unstable, in fact totally unusable I will send a different bug repot about xenpae kernels with multiple vcpus. 64 bit systems seem to be immune so far but I'm testing that too. Maybe only some processor types and architectures are affected (Andreas has a HP Compaq 6710b machine and I have a HP Compaq nc6320. Also take a look at our similar cpuinfo.) By the way it's no matter what vnc viewer we use. See the original problem description: I don't even have to log in to X. I also realized, that when I use the touchpad, then it will hang in the corner first, so I can use the USB mouse for a while until it hangs too. So. To summarize this bug, it seemed to me, that this mouse-in-the-top-left-corner problem only occurs on 32 bit dom0 systems, when running multiple virtual cpus and a qemu-dm assisted fully virtualized VM. But today, something very interesting happened on my system. I ran a 32 bit single CPU -xenpae dom0, and two domUs: A single cpu fully virtualized Windows Vista and a SINGLE CPU paravirtualized openSUSE 10.3 with a 32 bit -xenpae kernel. And then the mouse pointer suddenly get stuck in the top left corner but not in dom0 but in the paravirtualized domU. I restarted that domU several times and the problem occurred every single time until I shut down the fully virtualized dumU. After that the mouse pointer in the paravirtualized domU worked correctly. Dom0 (being single cpu) worked correctly all day. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I did find this post https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xen-3.1/+bug/140963 where it looks to have the same problems on Ubuntu. I have, so far, not had any problems with the mouse getting stuck in my dom0. My XP domU has now been running, with me using vnc to access it, for close to 15 minutes. Previously, I had never even been able to get 5. So, at least I have a work around that seems to do the trick. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
