[Bug 391301] New: German: "Aktualisieren" in update proposal
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=391301 Summary: German: "Aktualisieren" in update proposal Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 3 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Translations AssignedTo: ke@novell.com ReportedBy: kukuk@novell.com QAContact: ke@novell.com Found By: --- In the update proposal screen in german, you have "Aktualisieren" to start Update process. A button with "Aktualisieren" normally means, that the displayed screen will be refreshed with currentl informations, not that the update process is started. This is especially very confusing, since in every other place speaks about "Update" or "Update starten" or "Update Prozess". There is nowhere the word "Aktualisieren" used. The Label should be replaced with something, which makes more clear that this will start the update process. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Better use "aktualisieren" only in the combination with "Software aktualisieren" or "System aktualisieren". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There are different meanings for "Aktualisieren" in the german language. I don't see a problem if we use it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If we take a look at the major projects, I see only Mozilla using Update for Updates, the other projects all translate it with something like "Aktualisieren".[1] Of course we could left it in English, but that's not what we're trying to do, our aim is to translate as much as possible, left as much untranslated as necessary. And I think update is translateable. However, if this seems problematic for you (and I can see why), I'd propose to change the original string to something like "Start update", which in Fact would clarify this situation. Can someone tell where exactly this line can be found? I'd like to change it to "Aktualisierung starten" [1] http://de.en.open-tran.eu/suggest/Update [Note: The cases where OppenSUSE uses the Term Updated are outdated) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Either "update" or "aktualisieren". Thus far, it is probably not fixed. At least, I did not work on this issue. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Also we've decided to rename the "openSUSE updater" to "Softwareaktualisierung für openSUSE". Hope this gives more consistency :) [Btw. one reason for this was the fact that the KDE project already uses aktualisieren instead of update: http://en.de.open-tran.eu/suggest/update (06.11.09) ] -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
