[Bug 737072] New: Kernel freeze on boot w/VT-d & Nvidia
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737072 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737072#c0 Summary: Kernel freeze on boot w/VT-d & Nvidia Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: erik@lotspeich.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0 I have a Lenovo W520 configured for discrete graphics. The graphics card is an Nvidia Quadro 2000M. When VT-d is enabled, the kernel freezes a few seconds into the boot process. With VT-d disabled, everything works fine. If I give the kernel the argument "intel_iommu=igfx_off", I get a bit farther into the boot process before the freeze happens. Disabling ACPI also works. Since a laptop without ACPI isn't all that useful, I disable VT-d instead. This bug has been reported on the Ubuntu mailing list as well and seems to be related to a problem parsing the ACPI tables. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/776999 It's quite possible that the BIOS has configured those tables incorrectly. I have the latest BIOS from Lenovo (v1.34) installed. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Enable VT-d 2. Enable discrete graphics (if applicable) 3. Boot Linux Actual Results: Freeze of entire system Expected Results: System should boot normally -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
