[Bug 299225] New: Dazed and confused message after HAL update
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=299225 Summary: Dazed and confused message after HAL update Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: dkukawka@novell.com ReportedBy: funtasyspace@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I installed the HAL update on Beta1 as was requested here: http://news.opensuse.org/?p=106 After reboot I see the following lines in /var/log/messages now: Aug 10 14:39:11 thinkpad kernel: Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason a0. Aug 10 14:39:11 thinkpad kernel: You have some hardware problem, likely on the PCI bus. Aug 10 14:39:11 thinkpad kernel: Dazed and confused, but trying to continue Aug 10 14:39:11 thinkpad kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:01:00.0[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16 My hardware is a Lenovo ThinkPad T60p. If I need to provide more info, just tell me! By the way, I recognized, that the hal package requires the ConsoleKit package now. This is a new dependency which was never there in previous versions. Is this new dependency really intended or just a mistake? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I reassign this to the kernel. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

We need to add the ThinPad blacklisting to disable NMI on x86_64 ThinkPads. Andi, I've seen this on the ACPI list recently. I wonder why this: a) pops up that late b) whether the grepping through all kind of dmi info patch we added for SLES10 is acceptable for mainline? If yes, I can adjust it to recent kernels, post it for mainline and add it to our kernel. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=299225#c4 --- Comment #4 from Jörg Hermsdorf <funtasyspace@yahoo.com> 2007-08-10 08:06:08 MST --- OK, but I just want to mention that those lines appeared after I updated the hal packages from your repository: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/dkukawka:/hal-beta/openSUSE_... If I downgrade to the hal package that ships with Beta1, those lines disappear. So there seems at least to be a connection between kernel and the new hal package. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=299225#c5 --- Comment #5 from Jörg Hermsdorf <funtasyspace@yahoo.com> 2007-08-21 06:33:57 MST --- I still experience this with kernel 2.6.22.3-5-default. The status of this bug is NEEDINFO, but I don't know what kind of additional information I should provide!? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=299225#c6 --- Comment #6 from Jörg Hermsdorf <funtasyspace@yahoo.com> 2007-09-06 13:23:18 MST --- OK, those kernel messages are gone with Beta3 and kernel 2.6.22.5-12. Seems like this has been fixed? So I think this bug can be closed!? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There came a general nmi fix in, seems your problem got also fixed up by that.
