[Bug 796514] New: EFI boot menu entry cannot be chosen and multiple openSUSE installations will overwrite it
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=796514 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=796514#c0 Summary: EFI boot menu entry cannot be chosen and multiple openSUSE installations will overwrite it Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 12.3 Milestone 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: arvidjaar@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:17.0) Gecko/17.0 Firefox/17.0 That's probably enhancement request. Currently openSUSE relies on grub2-install to add EFI boot menu entry. grub2-install always creates fixed-name menu entry (removing previous one if it existed). It means that in case of multiple openSUSE installations on the same UEFI system the last one wins and "takes over" single EFI "opensuse" menu. Moreover, by default grub2-install will delete *ALL* entries that contain word "opensuse"! I think some more flexible framework is needed. There will be more and more UEFI systems and users do perform multiple openSUSE installations routinely. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
