[Bug 661979] New: FSC Amilo A-2000/A-6600 does not power off after shutdown
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661979 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661979#c0 Summary: FSC Amilo A-2000/A-6600 does not power off after shutdown Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: kilgus@fuenfsieben.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/4.5; Linux) KHTML/4.5.4 (like Gecko) SUSE Shutdown on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A-2000/A-6600 ends with the message "Power Down" on screen, but the notebook does not power off. Manual power off by pressing the on/off-button several seconds works though, software induced reboots are not a problem, too. I already generated and included a corrected DSDT in the initial ramdisk to work around IRQ and USB problems, but unfortunately without effect on this issue. Which information do you want me to provide? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: shutdown (GUI/CLI) Actual Results: shutdown, computer remains powered Expected Results: power off -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

kernel-default-2.6.34.7-0.7.1: works, the notebook powers off. kernel-desktop-2.6.34.7-0.7.1: see bug report. This is interesting. That would mean the bug is rather old (2.6.34 or older) and depends on the kernel config.
Can you make sure preloadtrace kernel driver is not loaded. Best blacklist it here: /etc/modprobe.d/99-local.conf by adding the line: blacklist preloadtrace You can double check with lsmod |grep preloadtrace whether it was loaded before (and thus could be the issue) and whether it does not get loaded anymore after a reboot. If it still gets loaded, run mkinitrd after blacklisting (I couldn't quickly find where preloadtrace gets loaded). This driver is known to make weird (memory) problems on some machines and should only show up on -desktop flavors by default. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Does it reboot correctly?
Yes, s. description.
Have you tried suspend to RAM or hibernation on it?
kernel-default: s2ram puts machine to some kind of sleep (power led turns red), pressing power button afterwards initiates some action but notebook seems to crash before being able to return to some useful state (tried --pci_save, --acpi_sleep 3 and --vbe_save). s2disk: splash appears, progress bar starts to "shrink", screen turns blank, sometimes I have to press the power button to let the splash reappear and the progress bar complete its mission, sometimes it completes at first try. Afterwards, machine powers off. Resume is working. kernel-desktop: s2ram crashes machine with weird pattern blinking on screen, s2disk s. above - with the exception that the notebook does not power off. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It is a -stable patch, so it should propagate to the openSUSE kernel at one point. I checked git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git, but could only see the patch in releases/2.6.38.6 directory, nothing related to 2.6.37 or 2.6.36 while the stable commit message states:
stable: This affects all kernels with cmwq, so all kernels since and including v2.6.36 need this fix. I am not that familiar with the stable git repos, Greg could you double check, please. Was there a discussion (stable list?) I am not aware of? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
