[Bug 572978] New: logwatch fails to read archives when logrotate is configured with dateext (default)
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=572978 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=572978#c0 Summary: logwatch fails to read archives when logrotate is configured with dateext (default) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: basch@mit.edu QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; GTB6.3; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.648; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729) The --archives feature is incompatible with the default OpenSUSE configuration, which uses dateext in /etc/logrotate.d/*. Any attempts to run /etc/cron.d/0logwatch with the --archives and --range options to analyze prior logs will fail to read the archives created by logrotate (at least as default configured by OpenSUSE). The --archives option is aware of the .#.gz and #.bz2 suffixes created by logrotate, but is not aware of the -date.{gz,bz2} suffix format created by logrotate. Besides being an incompatibility between the two packages (logrotate & logwatch), it is further exacerbated by the fact that OpenSUSE's default configuration of logrotate is to use the dateext option (so instead of it only affecting those who might change the system, it affects systems unless one has taken steps to avoid it). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Perl Date::Manip module (not necessary if you use the --range All option in #4). 2. Confirm /etc/logrotate.d/* contain the dateext option. 3. Wait for log files to be archived with the -date.bz2 suffix, or force such files to be created. 4. /etc/cron.d/0logwatch --print --archives --range 'since -7 days ago' Actual Results: Logwatch fails to process the archive files. Expected Results: Logwatch should also parse the data in the archive files from the selected date range. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
