[Bug 892568] New: Secure-boot fail on factory snapshot 20140818
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=892568 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=892568#c0 Summary: Secure-boot fail on factory snapshot 20140818 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 201408* Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@suse.com ReportedBy: nrickert@ameritech.net QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 The line "GRUB_USE_LINUXEFI=true" is missing from "/etc/default/grub". "grub.cfg" tries to load using "linux" and "initrd" instead of "linuxefi" and "initrdefi". I originally installed factory to use grub2, booting from "/boot". However, my intention was to boot from the 13.1 boot menu on the same computer. That has been working fine. With today's update to "shim", I decided that I should install it and switch over to using the factory boot menu for all booting. I mounted the EFI partition at "/boot/efi", and added that to "/etc/fstab". I next used Yast Bootloader, and switched to "grub2-efi". I set the "Distributor" to "factory" to avoid conflict with the NVRAM entry for 13.1. The grub2-efi install seemed to go well. On reboot, I got the one-time screen to agree to using the opensuse key. But then it failed to boot. I had to revert to using the menu from 13.1 to boot the system. I've repeated the call to grub2-efi, with the same result. There is no line GRUB_USE_LINUXEFI=true in "/etc/default/grub". I expect that if I add that line, it would generate a correct boot menu. Then it would be a YaST bug... Otherwise probably bug of GRUB2 itself... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I added that line to "/etc/default/grub" and then ran: grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg This created a good "grub.cfg" (with the "linuxefi" and "initrdefi" lines). I have not actually booted, but I'm confident that it will boot properly. So, yes, the problem is that Yast2 Boot Loader is not properly handling the "Enable Secure Boot Support" option. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It should probably auto-added if missing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
