In doing some research I have found that 's2ram -f' works from both x terminal window and ctrl-alt-f5 console. It appears that the T61p is still unknown. Please check http://en.opensuse.org/S2ram for instructions on how to find out the correct options for your machine. I'd start with "s2ram -f -a3" on a thinkpad.
