[Bug 1171016] New: openQA test fails in pam_sh on modify group access test on 'wheel' group
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1171016 Bug ID: 1171016 Summary: openQA test fails in pam_sh on modify group access test on 'wheel' group Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: aarch64 URL: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/1252681/modules/pam_ sh/steps/20 OS: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: screening-team-bugs@suse.de Reporter: guillaume.gardet@arm.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de CC: afaerber@suse.com, dmueller@suse.com, josef.moellers@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- openQA test in scenario opensuse-Tumbleweed-JeOS-for-AArch64-aarch64-jeos-extra@aarch64-HD24G fails in [pam_sh](https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/1252681/modules/pam_sh/steps/20) whereas it passes properly in extra_tests_in_textmode@aarch64: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/1252841#step/pam_sh/20 The only test in error is on modify group access test on 'wheel' group. So, pam package is probably missing an explicit dependency? Maybe on system-group-wheel package? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

it's questionable if 'pam' is missing this dep or the test - pam does not care if the group is there or not; just as it does not care if any other group a tet module might want to add a user to is existing.
I agree, but I have had problems convincing QA to check their IPv6 config for a given test, so I went the "easy way". I had looked if there was a way to require this only for testing but there was no way. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Not being able to convince the QA folks to do the right thing does not sound like a plausible argument to workaround a QA bug. the QA test wants group wheel to be present; group wheel is defacto not supported on openSUSE/SUSE and there is thus no valid reaosn why pam would pull in this group on all systems - unless a user (like QA) asks for it I vote for reverting this dep in pam and fix the QA code to request the group it wants to add users to -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Interestingly enough, it indicates that the group was already present for this test anyway - so the root cause was not that to start with
On JeOS - the group was missing; so the PR is valid for that usecase at least; but there is more up with this pam test to get it to pass Will you take it from here again please? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
