[Bug 737209] New: Reproduceably konqueror crashes
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737209 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737209#c0 Summary: Reproduceably konqueror crashes Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: suse@christian-reiner.info QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0 I experience segfaults in konqueror (opensuse-12.1, kde-4-7.4 from KR47). These crashes are 100% reproduceably, but, very intresting, only occur under very special circumstances: The crash occurs (only occurs) when konqueror is launched from within another application. I mean if you click a link that is offered in another appliciation which leads to any page in the web that contains some sort of flash object. This might be an entry in knode pointing to a youtube video or even the "check update" button in the flash kcm module. The segfault is 100% reproduceably but only occurs when konqueror is launched this way. When launched from cli konqueror loads, renders and displays the same page including the flash object without any problem. Because of this I cannot provide a console output. The problem is documented in KDE bugzilla: https://bugs.kde.org/288815 That bug has been closed upstream AND downstream, kind of... The bug description contains a full backtrace and a 'ldd' output which I don't duplicate here. Since the recommended upgrade to flash-11.2beta2 did NOT solve the problem for me I guess this is in fact a downstream issue. This is why I open this bug here, openSUSE is downstream. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.open a http url to a page holding a flash object from within another application (for example knode, akregator, kmail) Actual Results: konqueror is launched, starts to load and render the page and crashes with a segfault right vefore finishing the page Expected Results: konqueror is launched, loads the page, renders and displays it Since many many pages contain some fort of flash object for some animation these days konqueror in practically useless under these circumstances. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Both aspects have been answered in bug 288815 inside KDEs bugzilla: - upstream: Comment #10: Upgrading flash "does NOT fix" the issue - gnash/nsplugin: Comment #10: "neither gnash nor nspluginwrapper installed" -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If i remember right on the openSUSE forums an user said that for him using KHTML provided better stability. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737209 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737209#c4 --- Comment #4 from Christian Reiner <suse@christian-reiner.info> 2012-02-22 13:19:28 UTC --- Yes, changing the engine to khtml does solve that issue. Upsteam claims this is a problem between flash and QtWebkit, so this does not come as a surprise. However webkit is the KDE default and certainly works better on a number of sites. Since it crashes konqueror this clearly is a major bug that should be fixed, since KDE is the default for openSUSE. Looking at that situation I expect that everyone who choses openSUSE for the first time will most likely experience a crash when trying to open any page on the web. _Very_ bad marketing not to deal with this bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

However openSUSE 12.1 is no longer supported. Therefore I am closing this report. If the bug is reproducable with a later version please reopen. Personally I cannot remember crashes related to flash in konqueror in the last time. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
