[Bug 227508] New: Network with Realtek 8168 controller hangs after a while
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227508 Summary: Network with Realtek 8168 controller hangs after a while Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bwalle@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de With a "Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01)" device on a ConRoe945G-DVI motherboard, the network hangs after a while. It's not 100 % reproducable but about 70 %. This problem corresponds to http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7517. There's a patch against 2.6.19 in this bugreport. I'll attach a patch against 10.2 kernel (current CVS). The difference is only line numbers. Can somebody review this patch and apply it both to 10.2 and STABLE. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227508 bwalle@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|RESOLVED |REOPENED Resolution|FIXED | ------- Comment #4 from bwalle@novell.com 2007-01-02 05:39 MST ------- Unfortunately, this improved the situation but didn't fix the issue. More people having this ConRoe945G-DVI motherboard seems to have the problem. The bug is discussed in the Kernel Bugzilla mentioned above, but with no solution. So I reopen the bug. The only possibility to work around is using the vendor driver r1000 (also GPL) which gives much better results (I had a dead network one, but this was solvable by "rcnetwork reload", so I think it was another problem). If the problem persist when 10.3 is released, we should consider including this driver, IMO. But I hope it's fixed until then. But I have no idea myself what the cause for this could be. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227508 ------- Comment #6 from kkeil@novell.com 2007-01-17 09:49 MST ------- Hopeful the issue will fixed in mainline for 10.3. To help with this, you can post the problem on netdev kernel mailing list or even better, open a new bug on kernel.org. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227508 ------- Comment #7 from bwalle@novell.com 2007-01-17 09:52 MST ------- There's already a bugreport on kernel.org, and the maintainer is working on this, but I think he doesn't really know the cause and it seems that only a few systems having that chip are affected. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227508 ------- Comment #8 from kkeil@novell.com 2007-01-17 10:10 MST ------- Hmm if you refer to the http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7517, it's closed with CodeFix for two months, so it should be reopened too. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
