http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1125891 Bug ID: 1125891 Summary: X does not start Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org Assignee: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: daved@windclimber.id.au QA Contact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Lenovo Thinkpad T520. 15.0 works perfectly. Fresh installation of 15.1 beta. System boots to point where "Started Locale Service" is reported. X server does not start. Can ssh in from another node. If I execute xinit from that connection, an xterm appears on the console, but it does not seem to work well - keypresses often not echoed; long delays. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Your idea about desktop led me to change the default display manager from gdm to xdm. A reboot produced X running with an xdm login window. After logging in the system seems to be running properly. So if gdm is the problem is there anything I should to to try to find out why?
Thanks for the information. Let's find someone who has some insight into GDM. Stefan, who's knows about GDM? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Did a fressh install on a Lenovo Yoga notebook - works properly. Did a system update on a desktop system - same problem.
Hi again :-) By "system update", does it mean a system upgrading/migration from Leap 15, or a maintenance update on Leap 15.1? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Wild guessing here: could this be an instance of https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1055834 ?
Mabye. Seems this has been fixed in dracut. Do we have a dracut package, which the customer could give a try? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
