[Bug 307193] New: Speed up access to various rpm choices.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=307193 Summary: Speed up access to various rpm choices. Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 2 Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp AssignedTo: kkaempf@novell.com ReportedBy: bob_l_lewis@yahoo.com QAContact: kkaempf@novell.com Found By: Beta-Customer Why is it necessary to build a new database of patches every time I choose another YaST s/w function? The delays waiting to update or pick a new package are quite a time hit. Even if these processes just completed and I leave YaST an re-enter I have to wait again a very long time before I can choose another package. Switching between "Online Update" and "Software Management" does the same thing over again. Can't a system be designed to at least give the user the illusion that update choices are going faster? Is there away to time stamp that the user just got a complete refresh of everything from the repositories and not update the list again for a quantum period. This way the user would not have to wait again for the refresh to take place if they want to make another choice. I obviously don't understand the design mechanism enough to make an intelligent suggestion. I only use SUSE but I do look at other distro's and Debian (PCLOS) and Ubuntu feel faster and offer more clues to the user as to what is happening during any software updating. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

YaST only builds a database of patches if a repository actually changed. If this happens, then you need to refresh in order to point to the right packages. Perhaps do you have a big repo that changes often like Factory? If you like the Debian way, where it does not refresh until explicitly told. Disable autorefresh for repositories. You will get a 404 error if you install something in a repo that changed if you have old metadata. (Which is what happens in the Debian case). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
