[Bug 304325] New: "zypper rm" brings depedency conflict for every dependant package
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=304325 Summary: "zypper rm" brings depedency conflict for every dependant package Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 2 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp AssignedTo: schubi@novell.com ReportedBy: kkaempf@novell.com QAContact: visnov@novell.com Found By: --- running "zypper rm mono-core" leads to uninstallation of a lot of dependant packages, this is to be expected. However, zypper treats each of the broken dependencies as a conflict, waiting for user input to 'solve the problem'. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Latest zypp/zypper still complain, e.g. > src/zypper rm tulip * Reading repository 'local' cache * Reading repository 'update' cache * Reading installed packages [100%] 1 Problems: Problem: tulip-devel cannot be installed due to missing dependencies Problem: tulip-devel cannot be installed due to missing dependencies There are no installable providers of tulip for tulip-devel-3.0.0B6-7.x86_64 === tulip-devel-3.0.0B6-7.x86_64 === tulip-3.0.0B6-2.x86_64[local] provides tulip == 3.0.0B6-2, but it is uninstallable. Try installing it on its own for more details. tulip-3.0.0B6-7.x86_64 provides tulip == 3.0.0B6-7, but is scheduled to be uninstalled. tulip-devel-3.0.0B6-7.x86_64 depends on tulip tulip-devel-3.0.0B6-7.x86_64 is lacking the requirement tulip Solution 1: delete tulip-devel delete tulip-devel-3.0.0B6-7.x86_64 Solution 2: Ignore this requirement just here number, (r)etry or (c)ancel> -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=304325#c4 Stefan Schubert <schubi@novell.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- AssignedTo|schubi@novell.com |kkaempf@novell.com Severity|Critical |Normal Status|REOPENED |NEW --- Comment #4 from Stefan Schubert <schubi@novell.com> 2007-08-29 02:13:40 MST --- Ok, there was a misunderstood. "zypper rm mono-core" generates a conflict dependency in the solver. This conflict has been reported to the user every time which is wrong cause it is intent and the concerning package has to be deleted automatically. That point I have fixed. BUT zypper should delete ALL packages with broken dependencies which results from that remove request ( He is asking before he is really doing it). For e.G. deleting tulip should delete tuplip-devel too. This issue has been solved by the "setForceResolve" flag in the solver. Therefore the main aim is reached. Klaus want's to add additional information in zypper. So I assign it back and set it to "normal". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

tulip-3.0.0B6-7.x86_64 provides tulip == 3.0.0B6-7, but is scheduled to be uninstalled. tulip-devel-3.0.0B6-7.x86_64 depends on tulip tulip-devel-3.0.0B6-7.x86_64 is lacking the requirement tulip
Solution 1: delete tulip-devel delete tulip-devel-3.0.0B6-7.x86_64 Solution 2: Ignore this requirement just here number, (r)etry or (c)ancel>
I would also expect another option here: Solution 3: Do NOT delete tulip-3.0.0B6-7.x86_64 Well, cancel would have a similar result - but it cancels the whole transaction instead of just changing a single package to "keep / do not delete". You'll see the difference when you are trying to uninstall 20 packages with a single zypper rm command... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
