https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=419542 Summary: OpenSuse 11.0 won't get past hal or X on cdrom boot Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: xenoterracide@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- I'm not 100% sure where it's breaking as it freezes. I've tried failsafe vesa or text for video. none seems to work. 10.3 works fine on the same hardware and doesn't require any special modes. Here's hardware. I'd be happy to try providing more info. It then freezes the system. I've also tried an in place upgrade from 10.3 for some reason the X settings get weird an my monitor ends up at 79hz and I can't change it to the appropriate 85hz. even though the resolution is correct it's not right on the screen. meaning normally 1600x1200 will fit my screen right... in this case it's not snapped the borders as usual... the screen also wobbles... in a corner (not an intentional effect) due to the wrong hz I believe. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

how do I tell the disk to boot to runlevel 3? I've never had to do that on a livecd before...
Booting into runlevel 3 of a LiveCD wouldn't help, since the files no longer exist. If you only can test with a LiveCD you would need to login remotely after the system freeze (hopefully it doesn't freeze the system completely, in this case you're lost) via ssh to copy the files. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I know for a fact that X11 7.3 works with this card as I used it on gentoo just fine (barring custom patches). On 10.3 radeon 6.6.193 was the default radeon driver, whereas for 11.0 we switched back to 6.6.3. This could be the reason why it worked on 10.3, but does not on 11.0.
