[Bug 657622] New: mkinitrd: junk in compressed archive
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=657622 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=657622#c0 Summary: mkinitrd: junk in compressed archive Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: mmarek@novell.com ReportedBy: crrodriguez@opensuse.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: No Created an attachment (id=403492) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=403492) fail screenshot I am constantly getting the attached panic in Virtualbox, seems to me that mkinitrd makes no guarantee that the resulting initrd is not corrupted/broken and/or doesnt sync() the filesystem or otherwise ensure that the whole data is written to disk. Expected behaviuor: mkinitrd failing noisely if the resulting compressed file is broken/corrupt/whatever. Workaround: chrooting to the installed system, run mkinitrd again. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Do you have logs from the mkinitrd run that produced such initrd? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In a side note, the root filesystem is unjournaled ext4. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

And mkinitrd very likely fails with an error, but this does not propagate to the higher levels... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It could be that your /boot is full. And mkinitrd very likely fails with an error, but this does not propagate to the higher levels...
Nope, virtual disk is 35% used. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
