[Bug 235706] New: gnome-settings-daemon crashes in NX sesssion
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=235706 Summary: gnome-settings-daemon crashes in NX sesssion Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: RC 5 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: vkrevs@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Hi. I'm running openSUSE 10.2 on x86_64 and use the KDE desktop by default. My KDE environment is configured to autostart gnome-settings-daemon to make sure KDE's and GNOME's fonts are the same, etc. It works fine, except that when I use knx to login to my openSUSE workstation remotely, gnome-settings-daemon crashes on startup. These are the versions of relevant rpms: knx-0.1-61 NX-1.5.0-79.1 FreeNX-0.5.0-25 control-center2-2.16.1-28 glib2-2.12.4-15 libgnomeui-2.16.1-20 Gnome-bug-buddy collects the following stack trace (after I installed the relevant debug packages): Memory status: size: 183443456 vsize: 183443456 resident: 2113536 share: 7245824 rss: 9359360 rss_rlim: 1792327680 CPU usage: start_time: 1169024127 rtime: 26 utime: 16 stime: 10 cutime:0 cstime: 0 timeout: 0 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 100 Backtrace was generated from '/opt/gnome/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon' Using host libthread_db library "/lib64/libthread_db.so.1". looks very suspicious because SUSE packages don't use libexec directories. The binary is supposed to be in /opt/gnome/lib/control-center-2.0. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=235706 ------- Comment #4 from vkrevs@yahoo.com 2007-01-19 11:40 MST ------- As a matter of fact, the binary is in the right place: vadymk@starfire ~ $ l ~/.kde/Autostart/gnome-settings-daemon lrwxrwxrwx 1 vadymk users 55 2006-11-18 16:08 /home/vadymk/.kde/Autostart/gnome-settings-daemon -> /opt/gnome/lib/control-center-2.0/gnome-settings-daemon* However, there is something dodgy going on with the bug-buddy executable. I've done a clean install of openSUSE 10.2 for x86_64 and a simple grep reveals that the bug-buddy executable shipped by openSUSE does contain the /opt/gnome/libexec string. vadymk@starfire ~ $ grep libexec /opt/gnome/*/* Binary file /opt/gnome/bin/bug-buddy matches grep: /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-passwd: Permission denied Binary file /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-screensaver matches Binary file /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-screensaver-preferences matches vadymk@starfire ~ $ rpm -qf /opt/gnome/bin/bug-buddy bug-buddy-2.16.0-29 vadymk@starfire ~ $ strings /opt/gnome/bin/bug-buddy | grep libexec /opt/gnome/libexec -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
