[Bug 217425] New: Installation stops with one package
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=217425 Summary: Installation stops with one package Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: 32bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: timmi@gmx-topmail.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com CC: timmi@gmx-topmail.de I'm installing 32 bit version of beta1 (CD-check during installation okay). For a while, the installation works, but then appears a message that a certain package can't be installed (see attached screenshot.png). "Retry" doesn't change nothing: the same message is displayed another time. "Abort" and "Ignore" do both the same thing: yast is closed and I see linuxrc, displaying a message that an error during the installation occurred. The problem does occur each time with another package, but until now I never got installed the beta completely. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

That particular package cannot be that essential for the resulting system that aborting the installation is justified. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=217425 ------- Comment #26 from gerberb@zenez.com 2006-12-14 05:05 MST ------- On IRC there have been a lot of reports of no passowrd being set for root. Needing to create a root password like using http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/linux-tutorials-howtos-reference-material/5... Or other root password setting methods like bash shell from grub, rescue system. I was able to deublicate this by doing a net install from local NFS shares. During the installation I took my NFS share offline and after a time the installation looked like it had finished. On the reboot there was no root password. I created one and then restarted the installation. Many have waited over 10 hours for an net installation and then can not login. I am not sure what to do. I think this is being caused by all the load on the main/mirrors for installation. I am not sure what can be done. I felf it needed to be reported. Thanks, Comment #1 From Boyd Gerber 2006-12-13 04:20:14 MST [reply] Because an installation does not continue with an ignore to the next file it abouts installation. This is a major bug. I was doing an upgrade of my laptop. I had to start the net installation over 14 times because of individual file failures. It would be better if the installation would continue to the next file/set of files on an ignore. The installation used to do this, but with 10.1 and now 10.2 if fails/aborts. It is a real pain. This should probably be an aditional bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

To test the right callback create a local source (copy CD1) and modify a RPM in the source (e.g. append some file at the end). Then start sw_single and select two packages to install (the broken package and another package which will be installed after the broken package). When the error popup appears press Ignore (or Skip in the new version), the second (unmodified) package is not installed. Installation should use the same callbacks as sw_single does.
