Am i stupid or should it say hald-probe-input instead of hald-probe-inpu The latest seems so irrational. Should it be input or inpu. Expected Results: Not sure Intel dx48bt2 motherboard, Intel E7200 Core 2 duo 2.53 Mhz, 4GB DDR3, 2 320 GB SATA drives (sda is 11.2 install and sdb is 11.3), on board sound (Intel), and GeForce 8400GS graphics. usb hard drives (1TB My Book and 230 GB Ide) and two Lite-on DVD/cdrom drives. getting this error found in display message (Dmesg) right after booting 11.3 ms1.
[ 12.211890] hald-probe-inpu[1539]: segfault at 2 ip 00007fb6b5b1f0d9 sp 00007fff609ca3c0 error 4 in libc-2.11.so[7fb6b5aa7000+151000] [...] Looks like a bug, so yes. Am i stupid or should it say
hald-probe-input instead of hald-probe-inpu
This is fine - kernel just uses only the first 15 characters. However, I can confirm that hald-probe-input crashes - as can be seen in dmesg output, or when invoking /usr/lib/hal/hald-probe-input (as root) manually. Assigning to hal maintainer.
System comes up but there is some problem with user accessing the usb hard drives and dvds (root can access fine) This is seperate issue I think?
I don't think it is related - please file separate bug report for this. Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Important to fix and patch is trivial, +1.
Unfortunately, I have very basic linux skills. What I did so far: 1) Downloaded latest HAL sources from http://cgit.freedesktop.org/hal/refs/ (HAL_0_5_14.tar.gz) and umcompressed archive. 2) Downloaded the above patch to the root directory of the HAL sources directory tree (where e.g. the files README or HACKING resides). 3) Applied the patch with the command $ patch < dcb2829b8eff61463b0869614ddb07b1c86cecaa.patch .. but nothing seems to happen. I checked the file probe-inputs.c in the appropriate subfolder, but the changes described in the debian bug report seems not to be applied. @Leonardo: Can you provide me a step-by-step instruction how to apply the patch and to compile and install the patched HAL? Thank you in advance! -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thanks! -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thank you for your early reply! I recently upgraded to the fixed package provided in the repository mentioned above. And ... the hald-probe-input segfault error messages disappeared in dmesg after reboot! Thank you!
