[Bug 218230] New: amavisd crashes on start
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=218230 Summary: amavisd crashes on start Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 plus Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Usability AssignedTo: siegfried.olschner@novell.com ReportedBy: joe_morris@ntm.org QAContact: siegfried.olschner@novell.com On startup or restart, amavisd crashes. This is with both the package with beta 1 and amavisd-new-2.4.3-5. It is crashing because $MYHOME in amavisd.conf is either wrong by default or just not set. Setting it to /var/spool/amavis allowed it to work. This was an update install from 10.1. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Please explain what do you mean?
What I mean is that a crashing virus scanner is not a usability problem, that's why I have changed the bugzilla component from usability to basesystem so that the screening team can identify the correct assignee. In a certain way, every bug is a "usability problem", but the usability component in this bugzilla is meant for GUI usability issues only. At least that's the way I got it so far. The comment 1 was just meant as a reminder for the reporter to pick a better matching component because there was a bunch of reports in the usability component which fit much better into different components. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Since there were so many differences in amavisd.conf from the previous one, I renamed the orig amavisd.conf.bak and then renamed amavisd.conf.rpmnew to amavisd.conf, which cause amavisd to crash on restart. Comparing to the bak copy showed this difference, i.e. $MYHOME = '/var/spool/amavis'; which is what I set it to in the new conf file, which allowed it to start.
From the rpm files, this appears to be the correct home, not /var/amavis. Since it was commented out, I assumed there was a compile time default which was wrong.
