[Bug 880394] New: Gnome 3.10 / Gnome-Shell has a memory leak
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=880394 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=880394#c0 Summary: Gnome 3.10 / Gnome-Shell has a memory leak Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: PC OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: creation@suseromania.ro QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/35.0.1916.114 Safari/537.36 I`m using openSUSE 13.1, with Gnome 3.10. Since the installation of the OS i have noticed that Gnome-shell is using plenty of RAM just after the desktop gets loaded and no other "ram hungy" application is running, using around 900Mb - 1Gb of Ram. After i start my usual applications like skype, pidgin, google chrome, clementine and occasionally steam, the RAM consumption gets around 2Gb of RAM. The bad part of this situation is that after 2 hours of use, when i close the applications RAM consumption does not drop as expected. Lucky me is that i have 4 Gb of RAM. Resources: 1. openSUSE forum topic: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/498295-Gnome-3-10 2. Youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5T12xhu4S8 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install openSUSE 13.1 with Gnome 3.10 2. Login in to the desktop and start running applications 3. Close the applications and notice just a small drop in Ram usage in System Monitor Actual Results: Ram consumption did not dropped at least 1Gb as expected. Expected Results: Gnome 3.10 / gnome-shell in particularly should use less memory that 1Gb on Ram, Gnome 3.8 used around 800 Mb. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I can TRY to find a couple commits that might address the leaks, but taking snippets all over the place is prone to introduce new bugs; my recommendation would be to 'leave is as is' on GNOME 3.10 (I assume GNOME 3.12 already is better in this respect) and enjoy the fruits of GNOME 3.14 to be seen in the next openSUSE release. (WONTFIX for 13.1 - but FIXED for upcoming versions of openSUSE) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
