[Bug 345187] New: maximum confusion for zypper: "Legen Sie Medium [] # 2 ein und drücken Sie 'y' um fortzufahren oder 'n' um die Operation abzubrechen. [ja/nein]:"
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=345187 Summary: maximum confusion for zypper: "Legen Sie Medium [] # 2 ein und drücken Sie 'y' um fortzufahren oder 'n' um die Operation abzubrechen. [ja/nein]:" Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Translations AssignedTo: ke@novell.com ReportedBy: Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de QAContact: ke@novell.com Found By: --- When "zypper update" requests the installation medium, it says (for German locale): Legen Sie Medium [] # 2 ein und drücken Sie 'y' um fortzufahren oder 'n' um die Operation abzubrechen. [ja/nein]: Now 'y' and 'n' are English, and 'ja' and 'nein' are German. What is the user expected to enter? Maximum confusion! (Even though zypper might accept any of the answers, the text should be fixed) Despite of that, shouldn't there be a comma before the "oder"? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As for this particular problem, there is a translator comment (see below), but unfortunately a little bit misplaced, so the translator did not see it :O( sorry for that, my mistake. I just committed a fix. Here is the comment: // TranslatorExplanation translate letters 'y' and 'n' to whathever is appropriate for your language. // Try to check what answers does zypper accept (it always accepts y/n at least) // You can also have a look at the regular expressions used to check the answer here: // /usr/lib/locale/<your_locale>/LC_MESSAGES/SYS_LC_MESSAGES -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Frage? [ja/nein]: x Falsche Antwort '%s'. Wählen Sie 'y' für 'Ja' oder 'n' für 'Nein' wenn nichts anderes funktioniert.
If that is from the real system: Did you notice that "[ja/nein]" uses lower case, while 'Ja' and 'Nein' uses capitalized words? be as consistent as you can, and suggest for input exactly what you actually accept. No, i wrote that manually. This is from the real system: Fortfahren? [ja/nein]: Falsche Antwort ''. Wählen Sie 'y' für 'ja' oder 'n' für 'nein' wenn nichts anderes funktioniert.:

In the trunk, Ja/Nein is now capitalized. But I'll keep 'y'/'n' and 'j'/'n'.
There are four strings to translate: "Yes", "No", "yes", "no". The ones starting with a capital are used e.g. in tables, or zypper info output. The others are used in the prompts. Maybe it does not make sense to have both, maybe the lowercase ones might be enough... It's probably just that it's more 'visible' when written with capitals. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
