[Bug 705219] New: Lenovo x220 F5521gw Ericsson Business Mobile Networks BV didnt work with Network-Manager
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=705219 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=705219#c0 Summary: Lenovo x220 F5521gw Ericsson Business Mobile Networks BV didnt work with Network-Manager Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: info@sarazin.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:5.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0 If you try to get a GSM/GPRS/UMTS Connection with the Netzwerk-Manager-Applet 0.8.2 the modem hangs up immediately. Nothing happens. If you try a simple wvdial connection it will works, but not always. I cant say exactly if it is the firmware or the network-manager applet. I heard a lot of problems with the network-manager and a lenovo umts minipci express card. A regular pc-express-card, like the Huawei E870 works fine with the network-manager. Here are some information about the running system Lenovo x220 Netzwerk-Manager-Applet 0.8.2 Bus 002 Device 004: ID 0bdb:1911 Ericsson Business Mobile Networks BV 0A36186 (Lenovo Part Number) cdc_acm wvdial pin output: --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 --> Cannot get information for serial port. --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: AT+CPIN=mypin AT+CPIN=mypin ERROR --> Bad init string. --> Cannot get information for serial port. --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: AT+CPIN=mypin AT+CPIN=mypin ERROR --> Bad init string. --> Cannot get information for serial port. --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: AT+CPIN=mypin AT+CPIN=mypin ERROR --> Bad init string. wvdial output: --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 --> Cannot get information for serial port. --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet.t-mobile" AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet.t-mobile" OK --> Modem initialized. --> Idle Seconds = 300, disabling automatic reconnect. --> Sending: ATDT*99***1# --> Waiting for carrier. And if i cant get a connetion with wvdial i´m trying to test it with the network-manager..but nothing happens. After this step most of trys i can connect over wvdial again. It seems to get a hard/soft reset if i try the network-manager. Has anybody an idea whats going on here? This "Bug" only happens when im trying to get a connection with the internal umts card. If anybody has an idea, i would like to test a new firmware or whatever we need to get this bug gone. NetworkManager[11131]: <warn> GSM connection failed: (32) Operation not supported <----- is it possible to get more info about that?
This message was from ModemManager. ModemManager is the program to control the modem, and NetworkManager is its client. So I think you can restart ModemManager and try again. (just follow the procedure in the link in comment#3)
One connection per boot...thats not good...
What's about wvdial? Can it dial up successfully in the second time with the new driver? If the wvdial also suffers this problem, it may be related to the driver. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Ok it works for exactly 1 time with the new Kernel 2.6.39.3-1-desktop. If i disconnect the gsm/gprs/umts connection it wont work anylonger.
The NetworkManager only says "The Conenction is closed/disconnected"...
Than i have to restart the system for getting a new GSM/GPRS/UMTS Connection..
Now i´m tryig to set the cdc_acm modul to the blacklist, because both are loaded, the cdc_acm and cdc_ncm.
Blacklisting the cdc_acm modul doesnt work too...now the umts card isnt anylonger available...
Any ideas? I'm no kernel expert, but I think you don't have to bother the modules. Kernel matches the hardware and loads modules automatically, and it works fine in the most cases.

OK, looks like a bug in ModemManager. Could you provide the log of modem-manager?
mhm do you where opensuse is logging the output from the ModemManager ? Or how can i tell the modem-manager deamon for debug output? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
