[Bug 661646] New: LibreOffice (and OOO) Impress plays no sound with pps presentations which include sound
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661646 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661646#c0 Summary: LibreOffice (and OOO) Impress plays no sound with pps presentations which include sound Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Milestone 5 of 6 Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: OpenOffice.org AssignedTo: bnc-team-ooo@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: lee_matheson@hotmail.com QAContact: cwei@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0b7) Gecko/20101105 Firefox/4.0b7 I tried 15 different power point presentations (.pps extension) that have sound tracks that play under power point, most of which also play sound in openSUSE-11.2 Open Office Impress. None of them play sound in LibreOffice Impress in openSUSE-11.4 Milestone-5 (although the video part of the presentation plays). I note a bug report on openSUSE-11.3 for the same problem. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661421 My testing on 32-bit and 64-bit openSUSE-11.3 KDE4 and LXDE desktops indicate openSUSE-11.3 openOffice has indeed the same problem. I suspect in the fork from Open Office to LibreOffice the same bug was carried forward from Open Office to LibreOffice. Note while I raised this bug against OpenOffice.Org Office Suite, in fact it is against BOTH OpenOffice.Org Office Impress and against LibreOffice Impress. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Easy. Just try to play any .pps presentation that has an audio track. It happens (or rather does not happen) EVERY time. 2. 3. Actual Results: There is no audio. Expected Results: There should be audio. I can provide many different .pps presentations for you to test with if you can not find one. But I suspect it should not be difficult to find .pps presentations to test. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661646 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661646#c3 --- Comment #3 from Lee Matheson <lee_matheson@hotmail.com> 2011-08-06 11:31:52 UTC --- I tested this on a 32-bit openSUSE-12.1 Milestone3 (LXDE desktop) where I also installed LibreOffice. There is some progress. 3 of the 10 powerpoint presentations that I tested previous played audio this time in LibreOffice Impres. The other 7 did not play audio. They all play audio in WinXP Powerpoint. I am not able to identify what audio format is in use in these presentations, although I did open them up with the 'bvi' binary editor to try and guess, looking for the common power point audio extensions .aiff, .au, .mid, .mp3, wav and .wma The three that played appeared to have either .aif (.aiff not found, but possibly extension was reduced to 3 letters), .mid, or .au. The seven that did not play appeared to have .wma, or .au or or .mid. I can not explain why some with .au or .mid appeared to play and some did not. Its possible my binary bvi search method is invalid for determining the audio type. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661646 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661646#c5 --- Comment #5 from Lee Matheson <lee_matheson@hotmail.com> 2012-01-08 15:53:24 UTC --- I again attempted the same 10 power point presentations that would not play for me. I attempted these with both openSUSE-11.4 GM and openSUSE-12.1 GM using the stock LibreOffice Impress (with latest OSS updates) and codecs from Packman packagers. 9 of the 10 power point presentations now play correctly on both openSUSE-11.4 GM and openSUSE-12.1 GM only one powerpoint does not play audio on both. I tried to review the one that did not play with the 'bvi' binary editor and discovered one occurrence of .mov and one of .wma inside the editor, but those discoveries could possible be a coincidence in the binary decode and represent something else. As the originator of this bug report, given that I initially could get NO power point presentations to play, and I now have 90% playing (with the one does not play rather obscure) I am content. I am happy to have this Bug Report Closed. If I can ever figure out what audio format this one remaining PowerPoint presentation is using for its audio track, I'll raise a new bug report. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
