https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=656106 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=656106#c0 Summary: Unpluging attansic (atheros) 1063 network card using atl1c module freezes console Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: lijewski.stefan@zabka.pl QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; pl-PL; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 SUSE/3.6.12-0.7.1 Firefox/3.6.12 When unpluging network cable from Attansic 1063 NIC (motherboard:Gigabyte G31M-ES2L) the console freezes - cannot switch to any of vt or run terminal emulator. Running some system monitor (e.g. gnome-system-monitor) is not always succesfully, and when it start one can find process (e.g. xterm) with flush_cpu_freeze state. The only solution is to hard reset the computer. Compiling new atheros atl1e driver (1.0.1.14) and blacklisting atl1c solves problem, but cause some problem when starting network. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Run some terminal emulator 2.Unplug NIC 3.Wait few seconds - try to type anything, switch to vt or shutdown system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hm, could you update to 11.3 or at least try its kernel? http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/openSUSE-11.3/openSUSE_11....
On openSuse 11.3 problem does not exist - everything works fine. But I need to get this working on 11.2, cause we use those version on few hundred machines. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes, with that kernel bug seems to be fixed. But I'm not 100% sure - I forgot to mention we're using desktop kernel, not the default. I'm assuming, that should works also for desktop?
Yes, it should. You can check tomorrow (after it propagates) in: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/openSUSE-11.2/openSUSE_11.... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
