[Bug 730559] New: Firefox hangs until current tab finishes activity
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=730559 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=730559#c0 Summary: Firefox hangs until current tab finishes activity Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox AssignedTo: bnc-team-mozilla@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Greg.Freemyer@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/534.34 (KHTML, like Gecko) konqueror/4.7.2 Safari/534.34 I have Firefox from the 12.1 repo. It should be the GM version. If I goto youtube as an example and click on a video, my whole firefox instance locks up for 10-60 seconds. It's pretty annoying. Konquerer does not have the same issue, so it is somehow firefox specific. The video's also don't play, but for me that is a lesser concern than the freezes. The youtube videos do play in konquerer. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open 2 tabs 2. In one go to youtube.com and click on a video 3. try to use the other tab. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I cannot reproduce it. Firefox seems to run on 12.1 basically the same performance as on 11.4 for me. Please try to add some more information, like cpu and/or io load during the lockup. Could it be related to sites using Flash or does it happen for every content? (Flash not being used correctly on your system sounds somehow related) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If I'm the only one having issues, I'm happy try to uninstall, re-install. This machine has been zypper dup'ed since 11.1 at least. I see the hang on lots of pages, but as you know flash is everywhere so I don't know. It does NOT hang when I use gmail's webmail. I don't know what that is written in, but it uses lots of background resources. During the freeze, I can change apps and work with no issues. The load on the machine is only firefox typically when it happens. lspci and cpuinfo output further below: dom.ipc.plugins.enabled;true dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.602plugin.so;false dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.libvlcplugin.so;false dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.nppdf.so;false dom.ipc.plugins.java.enabled;false dom.ipc.plugins.processLaunchTimeoutSecs;45 dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs;45 # cat cpuinfo processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 15 model : 4 model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz stepping : 7 cpu MHz : 2792.867 cache size : 1024 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 2 core id : 0 cpu cores : 2 apicid : 0 initial apicid : 0 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 5 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx lm constant_tsc pebs bts nopl pni dtes64 monitor ds_cpl cid cx16 xtpr lahf_lm bogomips : 5585.73 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 128 address sizes : 36 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: processor : 1 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 15 model : 4 model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz stepping : 7 cpu MHz : 2792.867 cache size : 1024 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 2 core id : 1 cpu cores : 2 apicid : 1 initial apicid : 1 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 5 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx lm constant_tsc pebs bts nopl pni dtes64 monitor ds_cpl cid cx16 xtpr lahf_lm bogomips : 5585.80 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 128 address sizes : 36 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: # lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82P965/G965 Memory Controller Hub (rev 02) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82P965/G965 PCI Express Root Port (rev 02) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82G965 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82G965 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) 00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82562V 10/100 Network Connection (rev 02) 00:1a.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 02) 00:1a.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #5 (rev 02) 00:1a.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #2 (rev 02) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) PCI Express Port 1 (rev 02) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 02) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 02) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 02) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #1 (rev 02) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev f2) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801HH (ICH8DH) LPC Interface Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) 4 port SATA IDE Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) SMBus Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.5 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) 2 port SATA IDE Controller (rev 02) 03:02.0 SCSI storage controller: Artop Electronic Corp ATP865 (rev 02) 03:03.0 Communication controller: Conexant Systems, Inc.
