[Bug 350996] New: No desktop at startup, just terminal??
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=350996 Summary: No desktop at startup, just terminal?? Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: b.buntinx@student.unimaas.nl QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I just installed openSUSE 10.3 (64-bit) on my IBM T60p. However, when I try to run it I never get a desktop, instead I can only login in the terminal and do nothing from there since I don't know any commands. Can anyone tell me how to get into the desktop environment of KDE?? (probably it's simple but I never used any Linux before) Many thanks -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have an ATI FireGL V5250 and I've heard more people had problems with ATI on OpenSuse 10.3. When I don't install this driver, the error does noet occur. However, then I can't fully use my graphics card, but well: what is worse? I guess I have to wait untill ATI distributes a new driver? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

They might provide a fglrx driver for SLES10, but for openSUSE 10.3? The one for SLES10 cannot work. You can give the fglrx driver for openSUSE 10.3 a try, http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/ati-installer-HOWTO.html but one known regression is, that it currently does not support widescreen displays. This should be fixed for the next release 8.45/Catalyst 8.1. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
