Since kernel 5.1.15 and 5.2, overlayfs is much more strict wrt what is allowed.
This is due to this commit:

In particular if transaction tests are doing what the first sentence of the 2nd paragraph is explicitly forbidding then the test should be fixed.
Note that it's not about openQA tests, it's about transactional-update itself. openQA only uses transactional-update as documented. It needs to be checked whether there is an alternative way to get to the mount behaviour transactional-update relies on, but from a very quick look it does not seem to be the case. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

With this patch to transactional-update the reverts to the kernel commits can also be removed again.
