[Bug 542133] New: Mic produces ugly noises on Skype 2.1.0.47 during echo test
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=542133 Summary: Mic produces ugly noises on Skype 2.1.0.47 during echo test Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: 32bit OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: modjoa@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.14) Gecko/2009090900 SUSE/3.0.14-0.1.2 Firefox/3.0.14 Platform: Dell Precision WorkStation T3400 running a 32-bit openSUSE-11.1 with the latest SuSE-GmbH/Novell packaged 2.6.27.29-0.1-pae kernel, with 1.0.17/1.0.18 of alsa and an AD1984 hardware audio codec. The problem with the microphone (really load and ugly noise) occurs every time when I try to test the Skype Echo test. The problem does not exist when using Ekiga/ arecord applications. Below I have provided details about the bug. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Expected Results: The microphone should work properly as expected. A discussion about the bug is described here: http://forums.opensuse.org/applications/multimedia/422400-mic-produces-ugly-... I have tried different options but the problem still exists. What I have already tried: I have installed the alsa-driver-kmp-pae pakage (I have followed strictly the instructions. I have tried with the latest update and Daily snapshots) and I have putted the "dell" option in /etc/modprobe.d/sound, but the result was that I lost my microphone in all applications and in Skype I still got the Ugly noise (the noise is the same as the one coming from an old TV set when it is unable to catch any accurate TV signal). It seems (at least for me) that there is something wrong with the updated snap-shoot version of pae packages. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There is no corresponding entry for your machine. So, just install alsa-driver-kmp, remove once options for snd-hda-intel module, then double-check the mixer setup again. The mixer appearance must be pretty different from the 11.1 kernel. Adjust "Digital" capture volume to 50%. This means no digital signal modification in software. If the problem still persists, give alsa-info.sh with that state again. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The mixer appearance must be pretty different from the 11.1 kernel." Where to remove the "snd-hda-intel" options and what to choose then? What to double check - this is what I cannot understand? I have download alsa-driver-kmp - I have install it, but the problem is still the same - ugly noises in SKype echo, the other applications like arecord and ekiga are working fine. And, check the mixer elements are properly muted/unmute/adjusted. But, judging from the alsa-info in comment#3, the setup looks OK now, and the codec registers look good, too. The command above basically skips the pulseaudio, so pulseaudio shouldn't appear there. Anyway, with the command above, skype should be able to use the other setup now, i.e. no "pulseaudio" setup. The focused point right now is to check whether this is a pulseaudio issue or not. So, try to disable pulseaudio for skype as much as possible. Here is the my configuration: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=90729bce872df1274828d62c46d47d0a10c2e5a9 As you see at the end I got the following error message: !!ALSA/HDA dmesg !!------------------ Error: Driver 'pcspkr' is already registered, aborting... But, I'd suggest you to do just like the previous time: get alsa-info.sh output and compare with the previous data, adjust mixer elements to be exactly same. Then try arecord with pulseaudio, try skype without PA, and so on. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It seems that level meters shown in kmix does not provide the correct values - I just move a little bit the Digital bar meter -up and down and it recovers my mic. I am closing the Bug report.
