[Bug 817889] New: qemu-kvm using 100% CPU on sles10.sp3 guest boot
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=817889 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=817889#c0 Summary: qemu-kvm using 100% CPU on sles10.sp3 guest boot Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KVM AssignedTo: kvm-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rangelino@novell.com QAContact: jdouglas@suse.com Found By: Customer Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=537487) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=537487) Suportconfig I was in the process of creating a sles10.sp3 kvm guest on opensuse 12.3 node to test when I ran into a crawl situation booting off novell sles10.sp3 ISO. Bruce asked me to create a bug. FYI, I managed to actually do an sles10.sp3 install and once the guest boots, it runs fine. It's just the initial boot takes anywhere from 3-5 minutes. Longer with the booting off the sles10.sp3 ISO. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Could you run kvm_stat in another window and see what type of activity you get while the sles 10 sp3 guest install is beginning, through to the point where the install seems to behave normally.
I just booted the sles10.sp3 guest because it lags too. It's the same output as the attached kvm_stat output I sent you yesterday. kvm_emula & kvm_entry (I hope I counted right) are the only values changing until it reaches the boot screen, then other kvm_stat values start updating.
I'm suspecting we're bogged down in a lot of real mode emulation as the source of the slowness - I'm looking into that possibility.
Any way to put qemu-kvm in debug mode? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It would be nice to find a work around for this. Just being patient with your older hardware is all the help I can offer as of now.
I'm fine with it since my test is over, but at the time it was painful trying to get to the installation selection off the boot menu. This isn't a high priority for me. Thanks Bruce... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
