[Bug 421192] New: Network IP print fails
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=421192 Summary: Network IP print fails Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Alpha 2 Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: jsmeix@novell.com ReportedBy: lee_matheson@hotmail.com QAContact: jsmeix@novell.com Found By: --- Unable to print from openSUSE-11.1 alpha2 to a networked openSUSE-10.3 IP print server on the same LAN. The printer is an HP-5652 Deskjet. With openSUSE-10.3 and 11.0, the PC can print consistently, with client PC setup via YaST. A successful 10.3/11.0 setup on the client PC is like this: YaST > Hardware > Printers > Printers and Queues > Add > Netowrk Printers > Next > Remote IPP Queue (only for special cases) > Hostname of print server (I typed 192.168.2.101 (where that is openSUSE10.3 IP address)) and Remote Queue Lookup (pressing "look" finds the remote queue) and printing works ..... etc .. . HOWEVER, on openSUSE-11.1 that "Remote IPP Queue" printing option on previous openSUSE versions has been removed, and I could find no other settings with new YaST printing module that would allow printing to the openSUSE-10.3 print server. And as noted, network printing works find under openSUSE-10.3 and 11.0 (and previously worked find under 9.3, 10.0, 10.1 and 10.2). But under 11.1 alpha2 the IP network printing does not work for me. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Many thanks for testing it! What you write about is just not yet implemented so that your report is valid but on the other hand I like to close it as "Fixed in Milestone: Beta3" because in openSUSE 11.1 Beta3 all mandatory functionality would be implemented. Please be patient and reopen it, if it is not fixed in openSUSE 11.1 Beta3. In the meantime use e.g. the CUPS web interface http://localhost:631/ to set up a queue for a printer in the network (go to "Administration" and log in as "root"). For some more information regarding the new YaST printer module in openSUSE 11.1 see http://en.opensuse.org/YaST/Development/Printer_Enhancement and http://mzugec.blogspot.com/2008/08/new-yast2-printer-configuration-module.ht... In your particular case the "Connection Wizard" is not yet implemented, see for example http://en.opensuse.org/Image:Printer_mschmidkunz_connectionwizard_nw.png What there is currently implemented is only a very basic "placeholder" to have some dialog at all for the workflow. By the way: To print from a CUPS client system to a queue on a CUPS server, usually you don't need a queue on the CUPS client system. Use "CUPS Browsing" or set up a "client-only" config, see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_in_a_Nutshell "Configuring CUPS in the Network " -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
