[Bug 450201] New: File Manager - Super User Mode: error changing permissions from 'root' user.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=450201 Summary: File Manager - Super User Mode: error changing permissions from 'root' user. Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: gfarrell@netspeed.com.au QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Community User If a folder - and sub-folders - are created in a user's home directory with File Manager - Super User Mode, and the folder owner and group permissions are subsequently changed from 'root' and 'root' to '<user>' and 'users' (still in File Manager - Super User Mode), the permissions display correctly initially, then 'revert' to 'root' and 'root' when clicking on their parent folder in the left pane. This continues until F5 is pressed while viewing the folder's details in the right pane. Steps to reproduce (example with user 'geoff'): 1. In the user's Documents folder (/home/geoff/Documents), create folders 'Test/Sub-Test/Sub-Sub-Test'. 2. Select the 'Test' folder in the right pane, then right-click and select Properties-> Permissions. Enter 'geoff' in the 'User:' box, 'users' in the 'Group:' box, tick 'Apply changes to all subfolders and their contents' and click OK. 3. The permissions for the 'Test' folder immediately show as 'geoff' and 'users'. Click somewhere in the area where 'Documents' files and folders are displayed. The permissions don't change. 4. In a console, perform a long listing of the three directories: geoff@MyPc:~> ll Documents/ total 8 drwxr-xr-x 3 geoff users 4096 2008-11-29 15:04 LinuxConfig drwxr-xr-x 3 geoff users 4096 2008-11-29 15:37 Test geoff@MyPc:~> ll Documents/Test/ total 4 drwxr-xr-x 3 geoff users 4096 2008-11-29 15:37 Sub-Test geoff@MyPc:~> ll Documents/Test/Sub-Test/ total 4 drwxr-xr-x 2 geoff users 4096 2008-11-29 15:37 Sub-Sub-Test This confirms what the filesystem thinks the permissions are. 5. Back in File Manager - Super User Mode, click on 'Documents' in the left pane's Folder view. The permissions stay as 'geoff' and 'users'. 6. Click on the 'Test' folder in the left pane. The permissions for the 'Sub-Test' folder in the right pane show as 'root' and 'root'. 7. Click on the 'Sub-Test' folder in the left pane. The permissions for the 'Sub-Sub-Test' folder in the right pane show as 'root' and 'root'. 8. Click on 'Documents' in the left pane. The permissions for the 'Test' folder in the right pane show as 'root' and 'root'. Press F5. The permissions for the 'Test' folder change to 'geoff' and 'users'. 9. Click on 'Test' in the left pane. The permissions for the 'Sub-Test' folder in the right pane show as 'root' and 'root'. Press F5. The permissions for the 'Sub-Test' folder change to 'geoff' and 'users'. 10. Click on 'Sub-Test' in the left pane. The permissions for the 'Sub-Sub-Test' folder in the right pane show as 'root' and 'root'. Press F5. The permissions for the 'Sub-Sub-Test' folder change to 'geoff' and 'users'. 11. Thereafter, all directories display as 'geoff' and 'users'. Throughout, a listing in a console will always show the permissions to be 'geoff' and 'users'. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
