[Bug 227230] New: no dhcp with network-installation-cd
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227230 Summary: no dhcp with network-installation-cd Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: Windows XP Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jhorwath@mailpost.at QAContact: qa@suse.de hello, my big problem: no network (dhcp)-connection with your network-installation-cd: this is a problem, which i have with nearly every distro - except zenwalk. i don't know, what the differences are, but they must be essential. i am no techie, so please don't ask me to difficult questions. maybe you could just compare, what the differences in the dhcp (or whatever-)-process between zenwalk and ??? are because you will recognize something important surely straight away. i installed your 10.1 too with a strange behaviour: during installation i got the dhcp-connection, after the installation the network-manager didn't find the connection, but with ifup (i hope i remember correct) i got the connection. greetings zuhans -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227230 ------- Comment #3 from mhorvath@novell.com 2006-12-11 14:42 MST ------- So, switch to the tty1 by pressing Crtl+Alt+F1, while the CD is loaded and the connection has failed. Then go to /var/log by entering 'cd /var/log', and copy the 'messages' file into an mounted floppy or usb drive. Then you will have the logs in it and you can post it to us. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227230 ------- Comment #5 from mhorvath@novell.com 2006-12-14 06:41 MST ------- Before mounting you have to probably create a mount directory e.g. /mnt/fd : 'mkdir /mnt/fd' . Then you can mount it by typing 'mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/fd' (if you have a built in device), for a usb device there should be /dev/sd* (e.g. sda sda1 sdb sdb1 sdb2 etc.) . Please try to execute 'dhcpcd' , then 'ifconfig' and post it's output and the boot.log. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227230 ------- Comment #6 from jhorwath@mailpost.at 2006-12-15 13:02 MST ------- hello matej, sorry, but i didn't succeed - in no way: i dir your mkdir-stuff. i typed your mount-commands (with sda and sda1), but got errors: either "cannot read /etc/fstab: no such file or directory" (e.g. mount /dev/sda) or "mounting failes: invalid argument" (e.g. "mount /dev/sda /mnt/fd"). then i tried (just wanted to see what happens) "dhcpcd": i got the information "already running". please give me more help to get my floppy running. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227230 ------- Comment #7 from mhorvath@novell.com 2006-12-20 03:25 MST ------- You should be able to see the usb mass storage device. So, please try to load the module usb-storage by typing: modprobe usb-storage . Then list the /dev directory by typing: ls /dev . Look for the devices which start with the sd, e.g. sda sda1 sda2 sdb sdb1 sdc ... then please connect your usb floppy and turn it on. List the /dev again and look for the sd devices. Recognize which is new (there should appear any), that's your usb floppy. There should be one device without a nubmer at the end of it, e.g. sdc , and also at least one with the previous as a base and a number at the end, e.g. sdc1 . If you have it, mount the device by typing: mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/fl , where /dev/sdc1 is the usb device and the /mnt/fl is the previously created directory as I wrote you before. Then you should be able to access the usb floppy in the /mnt/fl, before you want to unplug (turn-off etc.) the usb floppy you have to "eject" it py typing: eject /dev/sdc . and that's all. I hope it will work for you, if not please report any error. Thank you. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
