[Bug 1120391] New: Unable to login into any virtual console
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1120391 Bug ID: 1120391 Summary: Unable to login into any virtual console Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.0 Hardware: x86-64 OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: damian.d940@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/71.0.3578.98 Safari/537.36 Build Identifier: Kernel 4.12.14-lp150.12.28-default. In every virtual console (1-6), when I type my username at the login prompt, I have no time to enter the password afterwards. Instead a cr/lf it seems to be entered automatically, the password prompt reappears, again a cr/lf it seems to be entered without any action from myself and the Login incorrect message is shown, with a reappearance of the welcome message and the login prompt. The strange thing is that it doesn't seem to depend only on kernel's version. The pc with the problem is an intel i5 hashwel/internal graphics/gigabyte mb. I have two other desktop machines with the same kernel version (but with different hardware components from the problematic computer), in which no login problem exists. The first has amd ryzen/nvidia graphics/asus mb and the second intel core 2 duo/ati radeon/asrock mb. Reverting into kernel 4.12.14-lp150.12.22-default, solves the problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Kernel 4.12.14-lp150.12.28-default 2. Switch to any of the six virtual consoles. 3. At the login prompt, type the username Actual Results: Password prompt appears twice, with no time to enter password and the login fails (Login incorrect is shown) Expected Results: Password prompt appears, waiting for the user to enter the password. If both username and password are correct, the user should be entered into the shell successfully. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thanks, it's good to hear. You can keep this kernel until the next release. Unless you need a secure boot mode, KOTD should work as-is.
My current plan is to submit the new kernel in the next week or so. Stay tuned.
Do we know what the underlying cause is here? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I've just applied kernel update 4.12.14-lp150.12.45-default which solves the problem.
Confirmed on my end! Thank you very much indeed for the new kernel release! Kallistos -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
