[Bug 245465] New: KSynaptics crashes on close if another mouse is connected
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=245465 Summary: KSynaptics crashes on close if another mouse is connected Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jrobiso2@ford.com QAContact: qa@suse.de During a shutdown, or END Session, from KDE, KSynaptics crashes rather than shut down nicely. This only occurs when I have another mouse attached to the laptop, either PS2 (via the docking station) or USB (when not docked). When no separate mouse is connected, ksynaptics shuts down nicely. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=245465 ------- Comment #2 from jrobiso2@ford.com 2007-02-14 09:54 MST ------- Here is what I get when starting it in a console: jrobiso2@Robison-Laptop:~> kcmshell ksynaptics pad.cpp:203 can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled? pad.cpp:114 cannot access driver, please install and configure it properly! I also note in the Xorg.0.log that X unloads the module as it does not find a synaptics touchpad (I have BIOS disables the touchpad in the presence of another mouse). By the way, I have put "UseShm" "true" in my Xorg.conf file, as the warning tells me to. Doesn't help. Perhaps this bug should read "KSynaptics crashes when no touchpad is present rather than fold away nicely". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I can change the BIOS setting, but perhaps a little tweak to ksynaptics is in order to prevent barfing on lack of a touchpad? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Considering the code quality of ksynaptics, i am not sure if this will work any better, but it might be worth trying with the upcoming 10.3 alphas/betas. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=245465 ------- Comment #6 from jrobiso2@ford.com 2007-02-15 09:15 MST ------- Changed BIOS, etc. X unloads the synaptics driver in the presence of another mouse, and thus Ksynaptics crashes. Looks like no matter what, Ksynaptics crashes on close if the synaptics drivers are not loaded by X. Let's hope the 0.3.2 version doesn't. The old one in 10.1 didn't crash in this scenario (which is why I never noticed that X was unloading the synaptics driver). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
