[Bug 523774] New: Kdm login screen presents a gnome login option when no gnome desktop exists
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=523774 Summary: Kdm login screen presents a gnome login option when no gnome desktop exists Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dave.plater@yahoo.co.uk QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- I noticed that kdm's login screen presented a gnome login option but upon selecting this I was presented with a blank screen with a mouse pointer and no normal way to leave only switching to a console, login as root, init3, edit /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager to stop auto login and then init5 worked. Some gnome package installed as a dependency must have caused this which would be a serious problem for somebody who wasn't experienced enough to escape from this problem. The following is a list of gnome packages I have installed :- # rpm -qa|grep gnome libwmf-gnome-32bit-0.2.8.4-207.28 libproxy0-gnome-0.2.3-21.1 mozilla-xulrunner191-gnomevfs-1.9.1.0-8.1 gnome-sharp2-2.24.0-25.7 gnome-themes-2.25.91-1.1 libgnome-32bit-2.24.1-3.8 gnome-keyring-32bit-2.24.1-6.1 bundle-lang-gnome-extras-en-11.2-6.2 libgnomecanvas-32bit-2.25.90-1.3 gnome-menus-branding-openSUSE-11.1-37.2 libgnome-desktop-2-11-2.26.2-1.5 gnome-vfs2-32bit-2.24.1-2.3 libgnomeui-32bit-2.24.0-3.6 libgnomesu-1.0.0-305.4 libxine1-gnome-vfs-1.1.16.3-0.pm.1 gnome-menus-2.26.1-2.13 gnome-vfs-sharp2-2.24.0-25.7 libwmf-gnome-0.2.8.4-207.28 libgnomesu0-1.0.0-305.4 gnome-icon-theme-2.24.0-1.18 PolicyKit-gnome-libs-0.9.2-14.5 mozilla-xulrunner190-gnomevfs-1.9.0.11-1.1 gnome-desktop-2.26.2-1.5 bundle-lang-gnome-en-11.2-6.4 libgnome-menu2-2.25.91-1.1 gnome-session-2.26.1-2.12 gnome-doc-utils-0.15.1-1.2 gnome-vfs2-2.24.1-2.3 libgnomecanvas-2.26.0-1.7 gnome-keyring-2.26.1-1.18 libgnome-2.26.0-1.8 graphviz-gnome-2.20.2-6.18 libgnomeui-2.24.1-2.7 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Also, gnome-panel is not installed but gnome-session is installed? That sounds weird, unless you've manually removed gnome-panel (since gnome-session recommends gnome-panel). So the important question is to know how gnome-session got installed. I'm allowing zypper to remove them to narrow down the options. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do to solve your bug if you don't know how gnome-session got installed without gnome-panel & nautilus. Well, I guess I can put a Requires instead of Recommends. This will make other people unhappy, but I guess it's better this way. Just did this in G:F. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I will keep better track in future. Here is what I'm left with for packages installed, I can't logout at the moment but I will reopen if gnome login option still exists. libwmf-gnome-0.2.8.4-207.41 gnome-keyring-2.27.5-1.4 bundle-lang-gnome-en-11.2-9.4 gnome-icon-theme-2.24.0-1.18 gnome-vfs-sharp2-2.24.0-25.16 gnome-vfs2-2.24.1-2.3 libgnomecanvas-2.26.0-1.7 libgnome-2.26.0-1.8 libgnomeui-2.24.1-2.7 gnome-sharp2-2.24.0-25.16 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
