http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=973599 Bug ID: 973599 Summary: emacs: after a recent upgrade emacs got wrong colors and compressed menu Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Development Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: j_k_v@ro.ru QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 671287 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=671287&action=edit emacs window right after start Packages: emacs, gtk3-metatheme-breeze Version: 24.5-7.1 Essentially, after the most recent Tumbleweed-upgrade emacs starts wish unusual, strange colors and menu. See the attached image. If I start emacs from console, a lot of following messages similar to these ones are printed: (emacs:6123): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:3938:43: The :insensitive pseudo-class is deprecated. Use :disabled instead. (emacs:6123): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:4061:17: The 'icon-shadow' property has been renamed to '-gtk-icon-shadow' The line and column numbers in gtk.css differ. Some packages containing gtk.css are gtk3-metatheme-breeze, version 5.5.5-1.1 (and, probably, gtk3-metatheme-adwaita, version 3.20-1.1) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

uname -a says Linux xxxxxxx 4.5.0-2-default #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Mar 24 12:22:16 UTC 2016 (ece3ff2) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
lsb_release -a LSB Version: n/a Distributor ID: openSUSE project Description: openSUSE Tumbleweed (20160329) (x86_64) Release: 20160329 Codename: n/a
The bug also persists with "emacs -q". The bug looks somewhat similar to http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/271886/emacs-got-blue-background-aft... http://i.stack.imgur.com/vxre2.png though the distribution is different and the menu there is not shown. If these is any more info I could provide, please report here. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

sudo zypper info emacs | grep Version Version: 24.5-7.2 sudo zypper info gtk3-metatheme-breeze| grep Version Version: 5.6.4-1.1 sudo lsb-release -r Release: 20160520
Running in gnome, the menus of emacs as well as its background are again normal. Don't ask me why. Running "sudo emacs", I get textmode emacs. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

To get Emacs in graphics mode for root, do something like "gnomesu -c emacs" or "xdg-su -c emacs". -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

How do I do the same with sudo?
I don't know. "sudo emacs" starts Emacs in graphics mode on my Tumbleweed system. In earlier versions of openSUSE I had the same problem like you, that "sudo" did not setup DISPLAY and X11 authentication correctly. "gnomesu", "xdg-su" ... always did this right. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
