[Bug 488159] New: Store LVM meta data backups in a non-LVM partition
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=488159 Summary: Store LVM meta data backups in a non-LVM partition Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: re@comunica2.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) I know that LVM documentation recommends to make backup of the LVM meta data backups that are automatically made. In Yast's automatic LVM partition schemes there is however no (or no clear) warning about this for the inexpert users. Therefore it would be a good feature when the LVM meta data is stored or is backed up to a normal partition like for instance to a folder of the boot partition which always have to be non-LVM. I have seen that this can be easily configured and it would make the distribution more robust. My trust in OpenSuse has been quite damaged when I had to learn this the hard way. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install Suse with LVM partitions 2.You'll see the LVM meta backups will be stored in /etc/ which is on a LVM partition 3.The LVM partition breaks and the LVM meta backups become unreachable. Actual Results: Unrecoverable meta data. Expected Results: Meta backups stored in a more logical location. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
