------- Comment #3 from stbinner@suse.de 2006-10-05 03:50 MST ------- /usr/share/pixmaps/ is the only pixmaps/ directory the icon loader searches. Is there a spec suggesting that $XDG_DATA_DIRS/pixmaps/ should be searched for an icon/pixmap at all?

------- Comment #5 from dobey@ximian.com 2006-10-06 08:17 MST ------- We should move the icon to the hicolor theme. It might even be a good idea to get some nicer icons drawn in all sizes and get the patch upstream as well.

------- Comment #8 from stbinner@suse.de 2006-11-03 07:39 MST ------- Added adapted patch of comment #6 to kdelibs3.
The following applications appear still without icon in the KDE menu as they reference icons contained in the Tango theme rather than (self installed) ones in hicolor: nautilus, epiphany, eog, gnome-calculator, beagle-search, "Search Settings", gedit

------- Comment #10 from gekker@novell.com 2006-11-07 14:49 MST ------- Rodney, can you fix this in tango or gnome-icon-theme?
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=209385
------- Comment #11 from dobey@ximian.com 2006-11-10 08:33 MST ------- The fix isn't in tango or gnome-icon-theme. And I don't know why those apps have self-installed icons either. They aren't self-installed upstream, except for maybe eog. If there are icons in hicolor and they aren't showing up, this sounds like a bug in either the packaging or KDE to me, not the icon themes. Most all of these apps should be using icon names from the naming spec anyway, but I imagine they aren't updated to do so yet, and the icon themes under KDE don't provide those names.

One thing I noticed:
If I use Tango icons in KDE - to unify to look'n'feel with Gnome - there are missing icons (see attachement). In earlier SUSE versions the missing Tango icons were replaced with the default KDE Crystal icons.
But now, the missing Tango icons in some KDE applications are not replaced with KDE default icons...

------- Comment #14 from felix.rommel@web.de 2006-11-13 11:10 MST ------- I made a screenshot of Konqueror under Debian. As you can see I use Tango icons there. Icons which are not available as Tango icons are KDE default icons. For example the zoom icons for text or the icons for Konqueror view mode in the toolbar are default KDE icons and not Tango icons.

------- Comment #16 from felix.rommel@web.de 2007-04-11 14:54 MST ------- Is this bug related with bug 226528?
These problems are still there in openSUSE 10.3 Alpha with updates 2007-04-10...
I think a good visual experience is very important and missing (Tango) icons in KDE apps do not look very professional!
Haven't installed openSUSE 10.2 any more but for 10.3 Alpha it seems nothing has happened in the last 5 months...
Is it that hard to solve this problem??

--- Comment #17 from Mark Gordon mtgordon@novell.com 2007-11-14 11:04:55 MST --- Looking back at the original bug (i.e. no icons at all, Tango or otherwise, in various Gnome apps), I see that it's still relevant in 10.3 final, though in a more limited way.
Within the actual KDE menus, two apps still show up with vanilla document icons: gedit (Utilities>Editor>gedit) and gnome-database-properties-3.0 (Utilities>Desktop>Database Access Properties). This is on x86_64; YMMV.
Several other apps, mostly capplets, lack icons if you browse /usr/share/applications in Konqueror, but that's a different issue and arguably not a bug.
Since this is still relevant (if less relevant than it once was), I'm moving it to openSUSE 11.0. With only two apps still affected in 10.3, I'm dropping the severity to Minor.
