Issue: trying to play music from amarok , selecting 6channel from kmix/alsamixer and selecting 5.1 sound from amarok. play music , put my ears near all speakers, and only fronts work. triet speaker-test and still only front works nothing from the others, Dough sometimes if i concentrate in silence i can hear very very low rear voice from speaker-test but i think its still being said from the fronts. Expected: like in windows i had rears, centre and subwoofer/bass working i want it in linux too. Test Procedure: someone helped me from #alsa on freenode irc channel by telling me how to install latest alsa and giving me a list of models to try(the ones you put in /etc/modprob.d/sound). Tried them all , no luck. (btw i always unmuted all channels and setted them to maximum volume after changing from model to other and restarted alsa) Distros: openSUSE, Kubuntu and Fedora. same problem on all of them. Hardware: Realtek HD audio onboard chip (codec ALC880) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If speaker-test doesn't work, it implies rather that the 5.1 output isn't really mapped properly to the actual I/O. Or some missing mixer setup. SO THIS PROVES THAT: in alsa 1.0.16 there is wrong routing for my board and its fixed in 1.0.18a. in alsa 1.0.18a: we discovered that the problem is in this version of alsa: i didn't have surround with speaker-test -c6 -Dsurround51 but i did have with speaker-test -c6 Dhw:0 ... then the person helping me discovered that it was a bug in softvol :) had to edit /usr/share/alsa/cards/HDA-Intel.conf and replacing the softvol part with another part he gave... guess what? speaker-test -c6 -Dsurround51 works perfect... ah another thing only model=5stack works for me and this is another bug since my system is 6stack. so......... SUMMARRY: in alsa 1.0.16 the bug is in wrong routing of jacks , must switch black jack into the blue jack and orange jack into the pink jack in alsa 1.0.18 its a bug in soft vol which prevens surround, /usr/share/alsa/cards/HDA-Intel.conf must be edited or downgrade alsa-lib to another version. i will upload my HDA-Intel.conf for people that has this big anoying bug. special thanks to Thingol for his great help :))) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
