In my xorg.conf I use the driver "Intel" and set Virtual 3000 1200 I use these command to enable xinerama: xrandr --output VGA --right-of TMDS-1 xrandr --newmode "sxga" 108.88 1280 1360 1496 1712 1024 1025 1028 1060 xrandr --addmode VGA sxga xrandr --output VGA --mode sxga Before I got a warning in the xorg.log that no DRI support is possible, but xinerama worked. After the upgrade xrandr tells: "xrandr: screen cannot be larger than 2048x2048 (desired size 2880x1200)" I tried to disable DRI support manually in xorg.conf, but without success Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Looks like the Virtual keyword is ignored. DRI is disabled, so it should be possible to have a higher resolution than 2048x2048.
One option would be to try KMS instead. For this add 'i915.modeset=1' to your kernel boot command line.
Big break through! linux-pgsf:~ # xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 4096 x 4096 VGA1 connected 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 338mm x 270mm 1280x1024 60.0*+ 75.0 1024x768 75.1 60.0 800x600 75.0 60.3 640x480 75.0 60.0 720x400 70.1 DVI1 connected 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 408mm x 306mm 1600x1200 60.0 + 1280x1024 75.0* 1024x768 75.1 60.0 800x600 75.0 60.3 640x480 75.0 60.0 720x400 70.1 linux-pgsf:~ # xrandr --output VGA1 --right-of DVI1 linux-pgsf:~ # xrandr --output DVI1 --mode 1600x1200 linux-pgsf:~ # xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2560 x 1200, maximum 4096 x 4096 VGA1 connected 1280x1024+1280+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 338mm x 270mm 1280x1024 60.0*+ 75.0 1024x768 75.1 60.0 800x600 75.0 60.3 640x480 75.0 60.0 720x400 70.1 DVI1 connected 1600x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 408mm x 306mm 1600x1200 60.0*+ 1280x1024 75.0 1024x768 75.1 60.0 800x600 75.0 60.3 640x480 75.0 60.0 720x400 70.1 linux-pgsf:~ # But the xinerama doesn't work right. The screen on the right side (17" VGA1) shows part of screen left (DVI1) with the same dpi, and as the resolution is lower elements over 1280 are invisible. Also the control bar on the bottom of screen left (DVI1) seems longer than 1600 and the end is invisible. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

A last question, if allowed: Is it normal that the dpi of both screens is the same, I mean, if a window on the left screen (1600) is 3/4 height (1200 pixel) and I move it to the left screen it will still keep the 1200 pixel covering so nearly the whole left screen? Or is there a chance to adapt the dpi so that the window have always the same relation to the screen (half size on the left -> half size on the right)?
Unfortunately you can't have different DPI values per monitor. This would need a redesign in X. See Bug #53811 if you would like to read a discussion about that issue. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

For me the problem is solved with the usage of KMS, if you like you can close the bug, if you like you can keep it open until the normal intel driver gets fixed.
Well, intel switched to KMS-only meanwhile. :-( -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
