[Bug 230911] New: "back" button should more operational
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=230911 Summary: "back" button should more operational Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Boot the installation disc. language -> license agreement -> what do you want to do Let's say "options" -> repair, I want to take a look what is in there. Ok, I see, nothing interesting --> back. The computer restarts. I think there was not so much done, to force computer to restart. The user should just get back to the previous dialog (as "back" suggests). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

One of such points is the dialog where you select Install/Upgrade/Repair. Of course we could make the back button behave as you suggest, however, there is risk of the installation behave incorrectly (due to some parts of YaST initialized different way than they would be initialized if you selected eg. fresh installation immediatelly). Sorry, but fixing this issue would mean to risk further problems. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It is more polite this way, than suprising the user who just clicked "back" (note: not restart). The principle of the least surprise. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

This is inside the repair module. Jsuchome: if you think (and you stand by the decision that nothing wrong can happen), that the [Back] button should be there (enabled), reassign the bug back to me and I'll suppress the restarting. Back button enabled => restart should not happen Back button disabled => restart is handled after repair is closed -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=230911 ------- Comment #6 from bluedzins@wp.pl 2007-01-05 08:04 MST ------- One note about repair -- maybe there should be repair options presented earlier. Just repair. Because it is quite strange that just a peek on what suse has to offer has to end with restart. I repeat: I am not talking about repairing, I am talking about looking at repairing options. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=230911 ------- Comment #7 from jsuchome@novell.com 2007-01-05 08:14 MST ------- I understand but, the problem is in the initialization of repair module (see bug 186580), after which it is better to do a repair. The repair module should be used by people who know what they are starting. And if it is for the first time, one restart doesn't hurt that much IMHO. The options available for repair should be described in the manual anyway. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
