[Bug 1130523] New: Failed bios boot (intel) after install

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1130523 Bug ID: 1130523 Summary: Failed bios boot (intel) after install Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.0 Hardware: HP OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader Assignee: jsrain@suse.com Reporter: jdjosselin@snow.nl QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/73.0.3683.75 Safari/537.36 Build Identifier: When OpenSUSE leap 15 is installed on some systems with only Intel bios boot the bios is unable to find the boot partition. This is because the pmbr_boot(parted) is not set on the boot disk. Some Intel bios systems need this to be able to boot from the disk. For more information see: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRUB (Intel BIOS not booting GPT; under Troubleshooting) The system that I used which had this boot problem was a hp prodesk 400 g4. I tried other boot options within the OpenSUSE Leap 15 installer like "Install boot code in MBR" but this does not fix the problem. I would need to boot in the system from the USB and then set the disk flag with parted. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install OpenSUSE Leap 15 on an Intel system (e.q. hp prodesk 400 g4) with standard settings 2.Remove the USB drive if installed that way (otherwise it boots from that) 3.See that bios is unable to boot from the disk without the USB Actual Results: The system was unable to use legacy (bios) boot to boot from the drive. Expected Results: The system should have been able to bios boot from the disk with OpenSUSE installed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Josef, any chance it is a duplicate of https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1093887 ?
Joris, could you, please, check whether it is reproducible with recent TumbleWeed snapshot?
Yes, it is duplicate that is already fixed. https://github.com/yast/yast-bootloader/blob/SLE-15-GA/package/yast2-bootloa... Sadly leap 15 contain this bug and as there is no self-update, it cannot be changed. But already fixed for leap15.1 or any media that is build from Leap15 sources with updates enabled. Thanks for report. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 1093887 *** -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
