Booting my lowly T41p with current FACTORY (STABLE, actually), I 
consistently get the following in my boot log:

The assertion strikes me as somewhat critical.  (I found this while
trying to debug why powersaving doesn't seem to work properly nor does
KNetworkManager as opposed to nm-applet -- these may or may not be
related.)
